From requirements to evaluation
Define the problem before designing the solution.
Understand the operating context
Use operating-context research and A3 problem definition to describe the current situation, the desired outcome and the people the product serves. Identify constraints and technical uncertainties so the scope addresses the actual need.
Translate needs into architecture
Turn the agreed need into product requirements and acceptance criteria. Map interfaces between mechanics, electronics, firmware and application software, including the external systems the product must work with.
Choose what to learn first
Prioritize risks and define a prototype or experiment that can answer the most important open questions. Agree responsibilities, evidence and review points before moving into detailed development.
Applied expertise
A shared basis for development
Discovery produces the requirements, interface decisions and initial risk assessment needed to plan the next stage. The scope can support a focused subsystem or a complete product programme.
